Type Locality and Naming

Northernmost Taiwan. The type section is located at Dazixiang in Fengshan coal mine, Shanzijiao, Taoyuan County, Taiwan Province. It was named by Yan C. and Chen P. in 1992. Original definition in Li (1960).

Synonym: Shihti Fm


Lithology and Thickness

It is characterized by the white-light gray sandstone, siltstone, dark grey shale intercalated with coal seams, represented by strip-shaped interbeds of dark gray shale and white sandstone or siltstone. It is important coal seam resource. Foraminifera fossils correspond to zone N5, plant and sporopollen fossils are present. The thickness is 300-500 m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

It is conformable in contact to the underlying Daliao Fm.

Upper contact

It is conformable in contact to the overlying Nangang Fm.

Regional extent

The formation is distributed in Taoyuan, Taibei and other corresponding areas.

Depositional setting

It is interpreted as a coastal tidal plain, delta or lacustrine environment. The strata is developed in northern part, becomes think marine deposit with less sandstone towards southern part.
